About This List
A lot of thought and care went into picking the words for this list. We think it's a better list than other Filipino/Tagalog word lists found on the web, for several reasons:
- This list focuses on the most useful and most frequently used words in the Filipino / Tagalog language.
- Every single flash card includes an audio clip! The words are recorded only by native Filipino language speakers. This is the only list this size that includes audio for every listing. The entries also include full accent markup so you can study the word stress locations even without audio.
- The 1,000 Words are grouped into smaller sets of 15 - 24 words each to make studying easier.
- The word list was hand picked from multiple lists based on word usage frequency and usefulness in everyday speech.
- The most useful and most frequent words are at the beginning of the list. However, we also throw in some concrete nouns toward the beginning of the list to avoid having too many abstract words in a single set.
- Words are purposely not grouped by category. Studies have shown that learning word groups by category is less effective for long term retention.
- The word list does not include verbs or verb conjugations. Verbs need to be learned a special way to be learned correctly, so this site handles those separately.
- Some common words were purposely left off of the list. We feel that words like "ng" and "na" are better learned in the context of a grammar lesson, rather than in a simple flash card program. In words like this, an overly simplified Flash Card definition can be vague or even detrimental to your studies.
- Track your progress using our built in spaced repitition study program. This website automatically guides you through an efficient studying schedule to learn these cards effectively.
