Kumusta! My name is Alex, and I am from Huntington Beach, CA. I started taking Tagalog classes as a beginner with Tagalog with Kirby.
I am studying the Filipino language because I want to communicate with my family outside of English and it makes it feel like a deeper connection.
It's been easy for me to write the different tenses and understand some of the first conjugations BUT I am struggling with thinking of any roots and catching on to vocabulary. On top of that, I studied Japanese a long time ago so sometimes I start mixing it up even more...I'm not sure how often I'll frequent the forums but this website has the best dictionary so far! Google Translate keeps failing me.

Hello! My name is Kevin. I am from Tustin, California, USA and I am a Beginner Filipino language student.
I am newly retired and finally have time to study the Filipino language to enjoy communicating with my wife in her native language, and with my in-laws in the Philippines. Plus we hope to spend significant time in the Philippines, once it is safe to travel again.
I had signed up for a beginning Tagalog class with a local language school here in Orange County, but they canceled the class since I was the only one that signed up! So I decided to try teaching myself, with the help of my wife of course, and am using the textbook from the class, which I had already bought ("Elementary Tagalog"), in conjunction this excellent website which I just discovered.
