Once again...big shout out on all the resources here.

Just want to focus everyone's attention on the availability of over 800 Tagalog root words here. Because nearly every root provides at least one noun and at least 3 verb meanings, eight hundred roots provides at least a 3200 word vocabulary (800 x [1+3]). And 3200 words is enough to cover approximately 95 % of words used in daily conversations. And all the most common conjugations are fully covered for each root.

Getting the right word base and gaining clarity about the collection of conjugations that apply to each root have been my biggest sticking points for a long time. So the tools here have become my number one resource and my progress has skyrocketed.

Maraming salamat!

One question, what is the source for the 800 roots or how was this list compiled?

Thanks, @BoraMac !

We have the root for every entry in the dictionary database...so the list was created by simply counting (via database query) the number of dictionary entries with the same root, and ordering them by frequency.

WOW...so interesting.

So does that mean that for all the 39,230 Tagalog words in the dictionary are all based on only 810 Tagalog roots?

@BoraMac There is a cut off...I think the root needs at least 5 entries in our dictionary to be included in the roots list. Unfortunately, there are quite a few more than 800 roots in the language...but learning those 800 (and how to conjugate) will get you really far!

Makes perfect sense. Another observation is that the list seems to change order slightly even as I use it over the course of a few hours. Seems like the list should be quite stable based on word frequency?

The listing format is interesting...as I cannot seem to capture the "card" entries. Is it possible to provide a more standard HTML format with the frequency details? Great work!

@BoraMac Well...it should be relatively stable...but we're always working on it, so if we add a word that has an existing root, it would "bump" the root up the list because now it's more frequent in the database (for perspective, we added about 1,100 new words over the last 30 days...so that could be a lot of words whose ranking is adjusted).

The Roots flash cards, though, were set in stone, if you want to use those lists instead:

Not sure what you mean here -- can you send me a link to the page you're referring to?

I am probably the biggest fan of the conjugation detail for every applicable infix. What is the primary source for this information?
