India implemented tightened restrictions including vehicle movements in New Delhi and surrounding areas on early Monday (November 18) morning to combat worsening air quality.
The new measures entail a ban on diesel trucks in Delhi and a shift to remote working, as advised by the local administration.
Meanwhile, parents of high school students were seen dropping off their children outside Kerala School in New Delhi, as a government mandate of moving lessons online only applied to primary and secondary schools. Some high school students also walked to school amid the thick morning smog without wearing a face mask.
India's pollution control authority said the national capital territory's 24-hour air quality index (AQI) reading was at 484, classified as "severe plus," the highest this year. Visibility dropped to 100 m (109 yards) in Delhi but authorities said flights and trains continued to operate with some delays.
