Tagalog Listening Practice

We've started a new section on the TDC website for "Listening Practice" for intermediate Tagalog language students. It includes Youtube videos (used with permission) along with Tagalog-language with text transcripts so you can follow along easily and "train your ear" to understand spoken Tagalog dialogue.

WHY YOUTUBE VIDEOS:
The great thing about practicing Tagalog with Youtube is that the language used there is more casual than in a typical student/teacher environment. This means you're learning the language as it is spoken in a practical, day-to-day way. You're acquiring the listening skills you will need to actually understand what people are saying on the streets of Manila.

TRANSCRIPTS AND CUSTOM REWIND:
The transcripts included with all of the videos were custom created for this website by native Tagalog speakers. There are also custom-made "rewind" buttons on the video pages so you can better fine-tune your rewind during videos to repeat words or phrases you didn't hear or comprehend fully. The one-arrow rewind goes back 2 seconds. The two-arrow rewind button goes back 5 seconds. This is really helpful to repeat tricky phrases you hear efficiently. The videos can also be controlled by keyboard: Enter to Play/Pause, and Left Arrow to Rewind.

DICTIONARY INTEGRATION:
Every word in the transcript is clickable and shows definitions from the TDC dictionary. This makes looking up words you don't know super convenient while watching your videos. The nice thing about the TDC dictionary, too, is that it's especially built to handle all of the slang and abbreviations that Filipinos use in every-day speech.

FUTURE VIDEOS:
We plan on releasing a couple of these videos per week, regularly, for the foreseeable future. So stay tuned to the Tagalog.com website!
